8 September 2011 (3rd Day)
We set alarm clock at 7am but we snoozed and woke up at 8:30am. And anyway there’s no fan over here and we have to on the air-con everyday and it is de-hydrating my skin everyday which is not good. And I guess I have to place a cup of water in the room to allow the air to hydrate the cup of water instead of our body’s water. And the breakfast for today is to reheat the leftovers egg tarts yesterday.
Today IS lesson teaches us about Geography, History & Culture of Wuhan & Hubei Province by different China teachers. One of the teachers that gave deep impression is Jack; he taught about the history in China and asked the students question in order to get our attention. And I came to realized that there are 23 provinces in China and Hubei is in the middle part of China and Wuhan is the largest city in the central China. In China there are over 9 million populations and it has a area of 8,467 square km. Wuhan is combined with Hankou (famous in commercial & economic), Hanyang (Industry), Wuchang (Education) and all of them are linked by bridges.
And we are also taught about the history of China starting from 1911, there’s revolution and Dr Sun ZhongShan overthrew the Qing Dynasty and fought against the communist party and then Wuhan became a political centre and served as the capital of the National People’s Government. And all the way up to year 200 which he talked that it’s the 3rd Yangtze River of Wuhan is opened. He also mentioned that there is a special bridge that is called “大桥”, cars on the top and train at the bottom, in a way maximizing land space, and I find it rather interesting and smart invention.
The teacher also taught about famous venue at Wuhan, which are Wuhan Yellow Crane Towner, Guiyuan Buddhist Temple, The Red Mansion, East Lake, Moshan Hill, Optics Valley of China, Wudang Mountain at Shiyan City and Three Gorges Dam. And the next teacher talked about famous food in China, such as: Wuchang Fish, 面窝,干热面,豆皮,汤圆,小笼包,Pan-fried Meat Buns, Fried Dough Stick wrapped in Glutinous Rice, Rice Noodles cooked in Fish Soup and lastly Lotus root soup stewed with pork chops. And their breakfast is called 过早, whereas Singapore is called 早餐, and their evening snacks is called宵夜, whereas our is called 晚餐。 And also we learned a Chinese idiom, (A washed pot is never boiling). Next is talking about places to shop, and we are introduced Jianghan in Hankou and Hanzheng Street which sells a lot of fake goods.
Lastly, the teacher mentioned what festivals are there in China. They are: (Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese Valentine’s Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and the youth will celebrate Christmas Day.
After lesson, we went canteen for lunch, ordered rice and ingredients and takeaway back to hostel and reheat them to eat. And we chatted while eating our food till 2pm and we went for PJM lesson at 2:15pm, topic is construction procedure.
Mr. Wee teaching the 1st topic!
All paying attention! & our class are cozy
HEARTS PJM! :D
After teaching, we went back hostel and rest till night time we went for Steamboat which is introduced by Mr. Wee. Our clique plus Mr. Wee went there for Steamboat Dinner that costs 45RMB, $9 each. They have really good meat, such as: KungFu Beef and Juicy meatballs.
Comparing Singapore and China steamboat, in china there are people smoking inside the restaurant which is annoying to those who does not like cigrattes smell. And over here the steamboat machine is controlled by a press remote control and not turning of the temperature like in Singapore. And in Singapore, there's no smoking inside any resturant or air-conditioned places.
Happy Steamboating! (:
Kungfu Beef and meat ball (POWER!)
We walked back home and get ready to sleep! Tomorrow has 1 PJM lecture lesson at 9:15am.
